2026 marks the beginning of the 70th-anniversary commemorations for the "Golden Triangle" of Cantonese opera—Yam Kim-fai (Y), Pak Suet-sin (P), and Tong Tik-sang (T). Inspired by this legendary trio, the "Dream-Seeking Series" embarks on a journey of the soul through cross-disciplinary creativity, branching out into six distinct projects... *Dreaming of The Peony Pavilion*—a cross-disciplinary dance piece—marks the 40th anniversary of Mui Cheuk-yin’s 1986 solo work, *A Dream in the Garden*. The performance weaves together the inner reflections of Lan Tianyu (a character from Pai Hsien-yung’s fiction) and the enduring echoes of Du Liniang—the heroine of Tang Xianzu’s *The Peony Pavilion*, written over four centuries ago. Amidst the fleeting beauty of youth and the relentless passage of time, these figures find their lives—and their dreams—intertwined upon the stage. Leung Siu-wai’s voice pierces through the veil of four hundred years, while Li Pui-yin embodies Du Liniang for the contemporary production *The Peony Pavilion: A Dream of 70 Years* (a tribute to Tong Tik-sang). On stage, there is a single mirror, two chairs, and three women. The mirror offers a glimpse into the illusory, uncanny reflection of another world—so close, yet forever beyond reach. A dream descends without warning, granting a fleeting, transcendent perspective on the mortal realm—an encounter with a time, a place, and a person never before imagined. Emotions surge, and the heart quickens. Upon waking, one finds that, having witnessed such depths, the ordinary world can never be the same. Who, then, might surrender so completely to the profound conviction that "the living may die for love, and the dead may return to life"—embracing the shock and awakening of that singular, transformative moment?
