2026 marks the beginning of the 70th-anniversary commemoration of the "Golden Triangle"—Yam Kim-fai (Y), Pak Suet-sin (P), and Tong Tik-sang (T)—of the YPT (Yam-Pak Troupe). Inspired by this legendary trio, the "Dream-Seeking Series" embarks on a journey of the soul through cross-disciplinary creative exploration, branching out into six distinct projects... *The Peony Pavilion: A Dream Reimagined (70th Anniversary Edition)* — A refined, traditional-yet-contemporary reconstruction of a Cantonese opera classic. In the view of Pai Hsien-yung, *Dream of the Red Chamber* stands as the greatest novel, while *The Peony Pavilion* reigns as the greatest play. At its inception seventy years ago, the YPT boldly took on both masterpieces: on June 18, 1956, the troupe’s inaugural production was a Cantonese opera adaptation of *Dream of the Red Chamber*, followed by a second production—*The Peony Pavilion: A Dream Reimagined*. Looking back, this second production proved to be the YPT’s most arduous challenge. Renowned performer Ho Fei-fan remarked, "The play is excellent, yet difficult for audiences to embrace." With its elegant libretto and profound, evocative imagery, it proved too demanding for the Cantonese opera audiences of the time, resulting in the troupe’s heaviest financial loss. They had chosen the right artistic path, but the market was not yet ready—a dilemma that left them at a crossroads, wondering which way to turn. Time has provided the answer. Seventy years later, *The Peony Pavilion: A Dream Reimagined* is hailed as one of the four great masterpieces of the genre. It has finally found its audience—one now capable of grasping the "subtle mysteries" woven within. In *The Peony Pavilion*, the garden—where "vibrant blossoms bloom in a riot of color"—is a world entirely sealed off from the outside. Du Liniang, a young woman of noble birth, is ostensibly living a life of comfort and privilege—a life with which she "should" have been perfectly content. Yet, an unexpected dream shatters these barriers, stirring her soul in a way that cannot be undone. If the dream cannot be fulfilled, she would rather die. Seventy years ago, Tong Tik-sang retained a fair amount of comic relief and slapstick to cater to the tastes of the era; today, however, the aesthetic sensibilities of contemporary audiences have evolved entirely. This commemorative edition—eschewing farce in favor of refined elegance—further advances YPT’s commitment to "purifying" the theatre and championing sophisticated dramatic texts. Drawing inspiration from Tang Xianzu’s original work, this production reimagines the classic Cantonese opera—famously associated with the Tang Shixing troupe—into a refined, legacy-focused version titled *The Peony Pavilion: A Dream Reawakened (70th Anniversary Edition)*. Act I: Strolling in the Garden | Act V: A Spectral Union Act II: Seeking the Dream | Act VI: Return to Life Act III: Departure of the Soul | Act VII: A Spirited Debate Act IV: Judgment in the Underworld | Act VIII: Judgment Before the Mirror
