Khatia Buniatishvili does not seek a "perfect" tone; rather, she pursues the essence of the musical moment. This philosophy, combined with her extraordinary expressiveness, shapes her performance style, rendering each of her interpretations a deeply moving and personal experience. She never views technical mastery as an end in itself, but rather as a means to reveal the emotional depths of the works she performs. Born in Georgia in 1987, she began studying the piano with her mother at the age of three. Alongside her sister Gvantsa—also a pianist—she demonstrated a keen interest in music from a very young age. By six, she was performing as a soloist with an orchestra, and as a youth, she began receiving invitations to perform internationally. She has consistently rejected the label of "child prodigy," describing her artistic journey instead as a lifelong quest for authenticity and personal expression. Among the musicians who have most profoundly influenced her are Sergei Rachmaninoff, Sviatoslav Richter, and Glenn Gould; she also holds a deep admiration for Martha Argerich, whose uncompromising personality she greatly respects. Georgian folk music has likewise left a significant mark on her, imbuing her playing style with a unique blend of warmth, melancholy, and expressive power. After studying under Tengiz Amirejibi at the Tbilisi State Conservatory, she continued her education at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna under the tutelage of Oleg Maisenberg. While still a student, she garnered international attention through her success in various competitions; her 2008 debut at Carnegie Hall in New York marked the beginning of her distinguished professional career. Today, Khatia Buniatishvili is a frequent performer in the world’s most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Musikverein in Vienna, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Philharmonie in Berlin, the Philharmonie de Paris, and Suntory Hall in Tokyo. She has collaborated with numerous world-class orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestre de Paris, the Munich Philharmonic, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the NHK Symphony Orchestra. She has worked with renowned conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Gustavo Dudamel, Paavo Järvi, Semyon Bychkov, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Philippe Jordan, and Klaus Mäkelä. She is also a regular guest at many prestigious music festivals, including the Salzburg Festival, the BBC Proms, the Verbier Festival, the Ruhr Piano Festival, and the International Piano Festival of La Roque-d’Anthéron. Since 2011, Khatia Buniatishvili has been an exclusive artist for Sony Classical, releasing a series of critically acclaimed albums, including *Liszt* (2011), *Chopin* (2012), *Motherland* (2014), *Kaleidoscope* (2016), *Rachmaninoff* (2017), *Schubert* (2019), *Labyrinth* (2020), and *Mozart: Piano Concertos Nos. 20 & 23* (2024). Her work has earned her two ECHO Klassik awards.
