"Mythical Romance" – A Symphonic Concert of Classic Wuxia Hits

This concert presents a landmark collection of music from *wuxia* (martial arts) film and television, performed by Xu Le, Li Hecong, and the Guangzhou Tongqu Yigong Orchestra. The program masterfully fuses Western symphonic art with the essence of Chinese *wuxia* culture. For many, Jin Yong’s world—his *jianghu* (the realm of martial arts)—resides deep within the heart; it evokes memories of swordplay hidden beneath school textbooks in one’s youth, and the echoes of chivalry and romance that linger in midnight dreams. This classic *jianghu* exists not only between the pages of novels but is also etched into the stirring, evocative melodies of iconic Hong Kong-produced *wuxia* soundtracks. Featuring beloved themes from adaptations of *The Smiling, Proud Wanderer*, *The Legend of the Condor Heroes*, and *The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber*, this concert employs a grand and deeply emotive musical language to help you rediscover those unforgettable *wuxia* dreams. Beyond the deeply expressive vocal performances, the arrangement of "Myth of Love" (*Shenhua Qinghua*) integrates traditional Chinese instruments—such as the *pipa* and bamboo flute—into a Western symphonic orchestra. This convergence of musical traditions captures both the high-stakes tension of sword-fighting and the vast, sweeping grandeur of the landscape. Through these lingering, soul-stirring melodies, the performance vividly portrays the chivalrous spirit, tender affections, and steadfast convictions of those who inhabit the *jianghu*. It showcases the enduring artistic allure of these works, conveying a timeless *wuxia* romance and a spirit of chivalry passed down through generations.
