Founded in 1996, the New Voice Guzheng Orchestra is officially entering its 30th anniversary milestone. This long musical journey was initiated by its first director, the late Mr. Qiu Shaobin, and its second director and director, Ms. Zhang Meiling. For thirty years, all orchestra members have been students of Ms. Zhang, actively promoting the development of guzheng music in Hong Kong. The orchestra has also established youth and children's groups, providing systematic training and valuable stage experience for students of different ages, ensuring the continued vitality of guzheng art in Hong Kong. Beyond tradition, the orchestra regards "innovation" as its soul, having composed and arranged over twenty guzheng ensemble pieces over the years. In its upcoming 30th anniversary celebration, the orchestra will present a concert spanning tradition and modernity, featuring a selection of representative works from its many years of work. The program is diverse, ranging from lighthearted and lively nostalgic pieces, newly arranged ensembles of classic hits and erhu masterpieces, to guzheng ensembles with profound artistic tension, fully showcasing the multifaceted musical nature of the guzheng. The highlight of this concert will be a collaboration between the three members of the guzheng ensemble and the "New Voice Chinese Orchestra," featuring nearly a hundred musicians performing a newly composed concerto for three guzheng (Chinese zither) – "Unread" (world premiere). The three guzheng instruments will intertwine with the orchestra, guiding the audience through an unknown musical world with both grandeur and delicate emotion. From the delicate and lingering guzheng ensemble to the magnificent sound of a hundred-person symphony, this is not just a concert, but also the culmination and blossoming of thirty years of dedication from the New Voice Guzheng Ensemble.
